Students & Young Entrepreneurs – Business Plan Wizard

Created in partnership with the Ministry of Education’s E-Learning Ontario Branch, the Business Plan Wizard is a fun and interactive online e-learning application that teaches secondary school students how to develop a business plan. The Business Plan Wizard also helps introduce entrepreneurship to students as a career option.

Features:

The Business Plan Wizard is:

  • an interactive online learning environment
  • informative, with built-in, illustrated, audio-supported course material delivered in manageable increments
  • easy-to-use, with templates that retain the user’s text and data entries and make automatic calculations based on them
  • fun for students – it simulates a high-school environment and has characters and a storyline to engage users
  • available 24-7, free-of-charge via the Ontario Educational Resource Bank and partner websites of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

The Business Plan Wizard allows students to:

  • image of two teenagers Learn the process of developing a business plan, including business idea generation, researching the marketplace, planning operations and marketing and creating a 12-month financial forecast.
  • Use convenient tables and templates to write their own business plans step-by-step.
  • Have fun while learning through games, puzzles and an engaging storyline.


  • To access the Business Plan Wizard, students can visit the partner websites listed below. Students who have used the Business Plan Wizard at school can resume their sessions by launching the application through one of the listed partner websites as well.

 

Teachers:

The Business Plan Wizard has been developed as a support for teachers of the Secondary School Business Studies curriculum. It also meets expectations in several other curriculum areas from Grades 7 to 12.

  • Theory and skills of developing a business plan are delivered in 8 parts that can be completed by students in 12 to 17 class periods.
  • Business Plan Wizard meets most expectations of Venture Planning in an Electronic Age (BDV4C).
  • The Business Plan Wizard is available through the Ontario Educational Resource Bank (OERB), where all the curriculum expectations it meets are tagged. The resource number is ELO1344820.
