The aim of the NOHFC is to stimulate economic growth, job creation and a better quality of life for people in Northern Ontario. The program involves northern entrepreneurs, companies and business organizations to support vital infrastructure and community development projects that enhance quality of life and stimulate economic activity. To help create jobs and foster growth in the Northern Ontario economy, the NOHFC is delivering targeted programs to the private sector including:
- Enterprises North Job Creation Program
Under this program, the NOHFC provides financial assistance to new or existing private sector businesses to support initiatives that bring new jobs and economic benefits to the North.
- Northern Ontario Young Entrepreneur Program
Residents of Northern Ontario, 18 to 29 years old have the opportunity to develop business skills and start up their own business in the North, and can apply for financial assistance towards eligible costs.
- Northern Ontario Youth Internship and Co-op Program
This program provides youth with the opportunity to develop skills to make the transition from school to the workplace and encourage youth to remain in, or return to the North.
- Infrastructure and Community Development Program
Businesses, economic sectors and communities are encouraged to form partnerships to find effective ways to create jobs and improve economic prospects in Northern Ontario.
- Small Business Energy Conservation Program
Small to medium-sized businesses with fewer than 100 employees may be eligible for this program. Eligible businesses can obtain financial assistance, in the form of conditional contributions, for projects that conserve energy.
- Rural Economic Development Program
The Rural Economic Development program is a community development initiative that helps rural communities remove barriers to community development and economic growth.
