GLOBAL EDGE

Helping enterprising and entrepreneurial Ontario students develop a broader understanding of the global economy

Program Description

The Ontario Global Edge program provides funding to post-secondary institutions to provide students, ages 19 to 29, with international entrepreneurship placements through the Ontario Global Edge Program.  Placements must provide exposure to the global economy and highlight the challenges and opportunities of conducting business in the international marketplace.  Types of placements may include small and medium enterprises, local economic development agencies or entrepreneurial focused placements with multi-national corporations provided that they will allow students an opportunity to get hands on experience within the global economy.

The program is currently being delivered by four institutions: Confederation College, Seneca College, the University of Ottawa and the University of Waterloo. Interested students attending a participating institution should contact their schools for application information.

A pilot program was delivered in the summer of 2007 to 12 enterprising students. Participants worked for multinational corporations, completed challenging work assignments and learned about how international business operates. Partner companies included Canadian and international banks, information and communication technology (ICT) operations, as well as companies operating within the construction, transportation and aerospace sectors. Funding

The Ontario Global Edge program will fund eligible post-secondary institutions who have submitted a completed application by the application deadline. Proposals will be evaluated on a competitive basis.
